Mindful Music Moments: Nursery Rhymes, Dances and Crafts to do Together, published by Upside Down Books/Trigger Publishing, with an introduction by Amber Hatch

This is a gorgeous book filled with simple, easy and gentle activities which parents and children can enjoy together, accompanied by mindfulness prompts. There are lots of lovely songs and traditional nursery rhymes, with suggested actions that are ideal for babies and toddlers. Slightly older children will enjoy the crafts using everyday household items. The illustrations are colourful, cheerful and child-friendly, with lots of diversity, and they don't conform to gender stereotypes either.

In the introduction, family mindfulness expert Amber Hatch explains the value of mindfulness exercises and stresses that they don’t have to be quiet. Lots of the rhymes and songs reminded me of baby and toddler music groups I would have attended when my kids were younger. At a time when it may not be possible to attend meetings like these in person, it’s great to have something that parents can use at home. This would make a lovely gift for a new baby and an excellent nursery or preschool resource.
