We were thrilled to get a shout-out from one of our favourite bloggers...
Jacqueline of Spread Book Joy is one of my favourite Bookstagrammers and one of the original accounts I followed when I joined Instagram. Jacqueline is also the first fellow blogger with whom I ever interacted online - she is lovely to chat to, so friendly, and full of enthusiasm for all things book-related. Her Instagram page (@SpreadBookJoy) and blog (spreadbookjoy.com) are two of the best places to get great recommendations as well as insights into the world of literature. I hadn't realised how active Jacqueline is on YouTube until recently. She has tons of playlists which include vlogs, ambient reading music and recommendations by genre and reading age. When watching her latest vlog, "Bookshop visit and book haul," I was pleasantly surprised to find my own Instagram page referenced twice! This video features a tour of an amazing bookshop, Waterstones Gower St. in London, and a discussion of what Jacqueline bought there.
Jacqueline made lots of intriguing purchases and everything except the books we already own has gone straight on to my ever-expanding wishlist. When Jacqueline mentioned she bought two titles based on Picture Book Snob's recommendations, I was delighted! There's nothing more rewarding for a blogger than learning their review has persuaded someone to seek out a particular book. Jacqueline selected one middle grade and one young adult title which we had shared on our sister site, Paperback Snob. The first is Morgana Mage in the Robotic Age by Irish author Amy Bond, and the second is The Dark Lady by British hip-hop artist, writer and activist, Akala. You can watch the video below to hear what Jacqueline has to say about them. Scroll down to see cover images for both of these titles (click on each cover to read a review). Jacqueline also picked up another of our best-loved books, Darwin's Dragons by Lindsay Galvin, so I've included that here as well. Be sure to subscribe to Jacqueline's YouTube Channel and blog, and follow her on Instagram for lots more book joy and reading inspiration.
