Pugicorn and the Christmas Wish

Written by Matilda Rose and illustrated by Tim Budgeon

If you're looking for a cute and cuddly story to give you all the warm and fuzzy festive feelings, look no further!

The sequel to last year's Pugicorn about a hybird pug-unicorn pet, this seasonal story features rainbows, reindeer, Santa, fairies, glittering stars, sparkling snow and magical wishes. This new adventure is as sweet as marshmallows melting on top of hot chocolate. Pugicorn saves Christmas by making it snow and then guiding Santa to Twinkleton-Under-Beanstalk and helping him to deliver presents.

The determined and brave Pugicorn is an engaging creature and his obvious enthusiasm and affection for Ava makes him even more endearing. Only 5% of children's books published in the UK in 2019 had black, Asian or ethnic minority main character, so it's fantastic to see diversity in Princess Ava, Pugicorn's owner. The Christmas fairies represent different ethnicities too.

There are some beautiful scenes, especially those set at night, and colourful illustrations thoughout. The endpapers feature a gorgeous map of Twinkleton-Under-Beanstalk, complete with pirate ships and mermaid coves. Twinkleton itself looks every bit the fairytale paradise and a Christmas dream. Best suited to children aged between three and six, this is part of a series that that also includes Pugicorn, Starwhal, La- La-Llama and the upcoming Pandarina.
